Skype is a free video application where people from all over the world can call, text, video conference or share files with each other. Skype allows you to communicate with people anywhere in the world about topics you may need to teach. Skype’s video conferencing allows people to see other people face to face through wireless connections and a webcam.
An educator may use this feature with students who are sick for long periods of time and can explain lessons or how to do projects through the video conferencing. The students can get an up close lesson from their home by their teacher through Skype. A student who is sick for a long period of time can also use Skype to keep in touch with his or her friends. This can be used as an amazing social piece that students can use.
An educator may also use Skype for expanding the lessons if another person is an expert on the topic and can use Skype to communicate. The expert in the area can answer student questions or give further details about a topic. Students also get experience discussing matters with other professionals. This technology would be great to use if another classroom around the world was working on the same topic and the students could present their projects to other children. Skype can be used to advance lessons and socialize with other people from around the world.
